Another entry from the Mpower!

Wednesday, August 30, 2006 at 2:58 pm (Happenings in KD's life)

Hello, world! It’s been a while since I last updated, but not as long as some of my other large spans between entries.

Anyway, I’m at SISTA, but I’m on break. I have my last class of the day, Braille, in about 10 minutes. (I don’t remember if I told y’all or not, but I had my schedule changed so that travel is in the morning and Braille and computers are in the afternoon.) Anyway, I thought that since the wireless internet works here in the client lounge and I was thinking about my diary, I might as well just write an entry now on my loverly Mpower. (That was a rather long sentence.)

So we had Drops again today, and I got teamed up with Becky this time. We had the best Drop ever!!! They took us to a little strip mall that we’d both been to before, and after just a bit of exploring we found the coffee shop. We got our food and beverages, then sat there and talked for about 2 hours. Fortunately we did call and say where we were, so no one was looking for us. But yeah, they should give me Drops like that every time!!

Well, I’ve changed my mind on my favorite song from LeToya’s album. Or maybe I’ve just added another to my list, I don’t know. But anyhow, I am now obsessed with “What Love Can Do.” That song is great, man.

Speaking of talented Houston singers, I preordered Beyoncé’s album! YAAAAAAY!!

Anyway, just thought I’d update y’all on my fabulous Drop. I really don’t have much more to say, and breaktime’s almost over. So I shall depart for now.

Oh, before I go, I have to tell you that I’m singing in a talent show at the fair tomorrow. Wish me luck!! Parting thought: GOT ME SO CONFUUUUUUSED… MAYBE THAT’S JUST WHAT LOVE CAN DOOOOOOO. (3 guesses as to where those lyrics are from…)

Clarifications

Saturday, August 26, 2006 at 12:19 pm (Happenings in KD's life)

Hi! I’m writing 2 days in a row! Isn’t that amazing???

Well, I’m actually writing so soon to clarify a few things with y’all in response to some comments from my previous entry. When I post portions of the File on here, they are not recent. The one I posted yesterday, for example, was from 2004. Therefore, Mom, I don’t need batteries and I’m not bored at this time; I just was in WAGES 2004 when I wrote that part of the File. Maybe I should start dating them?

Oh and by the way, Dad, the blind joke? So not funny.

Anyway. Nothing much has happened since yesterday, except that I got to sleep in and it felt wooooonderful. I also talked to J and Karen, and, after a few more listens, have decided that “Obvious” and “I’m Good” are my 2 favorite songs on LeToya’s CD.

I’m going to a get-together with people from my church at 4, so that should be fun. I wonder if I should bring something. I have this awesome recipe for homemade chocolate chip cookies that I want to try. Hmmmm…

Well, I think i’m going to get some lunch now. Must get rid of leftovers!! Parting thought: I LIKE GARDENIA-SCENTED LOTION!!

Even more File!

Friday, August 25, 2006 at 7:21 pm (Portions of the "infamous" File)

Here is yet more of the notorious File! Enjoy!

I’m back. It’s the second day of my third week, and something very tragic happened. The batteries in my CD player went dead, exactly at the same time that my headphones crapped out, exactly at a critical point in my audio book *1!!! So now I’m extremely bored, annoyed, frustrated, wronged, and generally not a very happy camper. (I can say that, you see, because I’m in a camp right now.)

Should I read a book? I dunno. It’s only noon! Not even noon, actually. Should I call one of you guyses *2? Dunno. It’d be fun!!! But then again… might get fired or lectured or something equally as unappetizing. I wonder if I could get fired? And if I did, would I have to go home? Or be confined in shame to my dorm for the rest of the program?

Hmmm. Just under two hours of dreadful boredom. Goodness!!! Whatever shall I do???? Cry? Nah, too loud. Scream? Nah, might attract the police next door, and I’d have a real job explaining to them that my outburst of distress was of boredom and frustration, not the cause of some big violent abusive scary guy. Or girl, I guess. There are some pretty big violent abusive scary girls too. Anyway… I’m bored.

Now it’s the second day of my fourth week. I very smartly left my compact flash card at home, but I did bring an audio book. The problem is, it’s short. So I think I shall start on it after I eat. So that leaves the whole morning for me to just sit here and contemplate my three mysteries of life:

  1. Why is it that excellent recording artists like M2M, Lindsay Pagano, and especially the Beu Sisters, get little attention from record companies, and people that can’t sing on pitch to save their lives, like William Hung, get a record deal and loads of press just because people think he’s funny, which in my opinion is not a legitimate reason to let someone make an album?
  2. Why do a majority of sighted people think that blindness affects things like the brain, legs, ears, and vocal cords when the definition simply states, “Handicap of the eyes?”
  3. Who is Roberta *3?

If anyone has helpful answers to my mysteries, do not hesitate to contact me.

Heck, I almost want my cell phone to ring, even though it is very loud and in here it is very quiet.

Bored, bored, bored!!!!
Lord, Lord, Lord!!!!
I need a cord, cord, cord!!!!
Oops, I just snored, snored, snored!!!!
I want a sword, sword, sword!!!!

OK, sorry. I’ll stop now. It was fun though.

I’m gonna put my watch away so I’m not tempted to check it and see how slowly time is passing. There. I did it. Man, I’m bored. I finished the rest of my book, and have nothing, I repeat, nothing else to do. So I’m listening to the radio while typing in this lovely file. I have my watch back on.

HEY!!!!!!!!! It’s “Dilemma!” Wow, Kelly has a very sweet voice. Her, Mya, and Christina Milian should get together. Oh, and Mandy Moore. And Kiely from 3LW. Who else? Oh!! T from Soluna. I don’t know her real name, just that she’s called T by her friends. Maybe it’s a stage name type thing. Who else? (Sorry, this is actually kind of entertaining.) Nivea!!! And Do!!! I wonder whatever happened to her… And Aaliyah, or the late Aaliyah… SAD!!!

OK, I’m done. I have like a whole choir now. Ya know, it’d be cool to direct a choir. I don’t know how I’d do it, but I suppose I could arrange the harmony and stuff. It sounds fun, and I really love choir music, especially a cappella or with piano, and with little countermelodies and stuff. It also helps when everyone in the choir can carry a tune. Without that key part, the harmonies end up really bombing. That’s never cool.

That was really obvious, huh? I mean, who wouldn’t know that in order to have a satisfactory choir, everyone has to know how to sing? Forgive me for my careless boredom.

  • *1: The dying of batteries during my audio book was just one of the things that helped to create the Bad Day to Top All Bad Days. That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, the day in question, the day in which I wrote that sentence, was about the crappiest day in the life of KD to date. I was in floods of tears by the end of it. Just a bit of historical background for y’all.
  • *2: By “you guyses,” I mean the other members of the Brain: G, Kaitlin, and Mary.
  • *3: This guy kept calling the number of my dorm room, demanding to speak to someone named Roberta, even though we kept saying that there was no such person living there. After a while he got kind of hostile, accusing my roommate and me of being drunk or high. (Don’t ask.)

TUNE IN NEXT TIME FOR AN EPISODE OF FILE CONTAINING SEVERAL VERY EDUCATED MUSICAL RANTS!!!

More randomness

Friday, August 25, 2006 at 6:22 pm (Happenings in KD's life)

Hellooooo world! I’m baaack! I really need to start writing more often, don’t I? The problem is, I really have no fabulous and interesting news to report. Other than the fact that Beyoncé’s album will be out a week from Tuesday!!! Woohooooo!

I’m listening to LeToya’s album as I write this. She really has a beautiful voice, and it makes me happy. But not as happy as the releases of B’day and My Story, which, as you might have guessed, are the titles of Beyoncé’s and Kelly’s albums, respectively. Also, if Michelle would make another album I would be happy. Most people don’t realize that she’s already put out 2 great CDs. She totally doesn’t get enough credit for all her talent.

Today was Jeremy’s first official day as apartment resource manager, and he made sure each of us knew how to climb down the fire escape. Kim accidentally opened the wrong door at the bottom of it, and I wasn’t really paying attention so I followed her. We went right into a bar! It was pretty funny; 2 steps in and I was like, Ummmm, something tells me this isn’t a place I should be entering…

I seriously have nothing to say. Something interesting needs to happen in my life so I can write about it, but right now it’s just the same old routine: travel, cooking, wood shop, Braille, go home and crash. I need to start getting more sleep at night. At least i’m not as bad as Becky; she’s been part-zombie all week from lack of sleep.

Well, to make up for this entry, I shall add another portion of File! Right after I get my laundry out of the dryer, that is. See you on the other side! Parting thought: SHE DON’T EVEN KISS YOU LIKE THIS!!! (Lyrics from the song I’m listening to now)

Random ranting and rambling (hey, that’s kinda catchy…)

Thursday, August 17, 2006 at 7:26 pm (Happenings in KD's life)

Hello, I’m back! I’m actually writing 2 entries in 1 week!!! *Waits for applause. After several hours, gets tired of waiting*

Well, I succeeded in making chicken enchiladas yesterday! Dipping tortillas in hot oil was kinda scary, but they turned out really good! Except I accidentally dropped a tortilla into the oil because it slipped out of my tongs! I couldn’t get it out until about a minute later, and lo and behold, I accidentally made a corn chip! It was actually quite tasty.

Hmmm, what else is new? OH YEAH!!!! I heard the new Beyoncé single, and once again, it. Is. Freaking. Awesome. That woman never ceases to amaze, astound, and astonish me. But what was I expecting? She’s Beyoncé!

I just went to visit Jess, and she tried to convince me to take all the food left in her kitchen since she’s leaving tomorrow. I politely declined most of it, but did take some hamburger helper and a bag of flour. Oh, and a can of pineapple. Yum.

Anything else of vital importance? Oh, a note to Liz: If you want me to write a poem about you, could you tell me a little about yourself? All I know now is that you’re from Australia and you have pet kittens. Haha. And a note to Kaitlin: Your limerick is coming!

Well, I’d better go hang out with Jess since this is her last day. I’ll try to write tomorrow! *Waits for applause. After several hours, gets tired of waiting* Parting thought: DO I SENSE A PATTERN HERE?

Lethologica

Monday, August 14, 2006 at 8:57 pm (General ramblings)

Hi, people. This entry is not going to be spectacular because I’m really tired (what’s new, eh?), but I just wanted to wish Kaitlin luck on her first day of college, which is over now. It’s so weird that all 4 of us are going our separate ways. Our friendship is the only thing in my high school career that I feel nostalgic about. We had something special; we shared a brain!!!

So I overslept this morning and missed the bus to go to SISTA! Oops! That is not a good way to start a Monday, let me tell you right now. Because although I did catch the next bus and arrived only a little late, stuff like that tends to throw your whole day off.

Hmmm, any other news? Oh, I’m going to try out for American Idol! The SISTA people talked me into it. I’m wearing my sparkly black dress and, of course, my lucky Beyoncé fragrance.

I bought LeToya’s album, but haven’t had the time to listen to it very thoroughly yet. From what I’ve heard, it’s pretty good. Her voice is not quite as lovely and powerful as those of the DC girls, but she can definitely hold her own, and I respect that.

Hmmm, I was going to write something else. What was it? I hate it when this happens.

Oh forget it, I don’t know. Knowing me, I’ll sit bolt upright at 4 in the morning with the thought fully formed in my head.

But right now I need sleep. I feel all drowsy. Hopefully I’m not coming down with anything; this is Jess’s last week here and I don’t want to miss it! Another friend going away… waaaaaaahhh… Parting thought: I’M BRINGING HOME A BABY BUMBLEBEE!!! (If anyone can finish the lyrics to this song, I will write a poem about them in my diary!)

Raaaantiness!

Saturday, August 5, 2006 at 7:42 pm (Angry/passionate rants)

Hello! It’s been a while. Again. Anyone surprised? Anyone? Didn’t think so.

Well, I have lots to rant about, so let’s proceed. First of all, I am considering doing something that some of my long-time friends will probably think is odd. Particularly if they look at my attitude regarding issues with this person in 8th grade. Dang, I’m glad there are no time machines to propel my 13-year-old self into the future; KD the Younger would be appalled by this! Have you guessed yet? Probably, but I’ll say it anyway: I am almost definitely buying LeToya Luckett’s album.

Yes, I know, I used to think she was one of the 2 most evil people on the planet, but seriously, just because someone files a lawsuit against DC doesn’t mean they’re evil, right? Besides, who am I to ignore talent? ‘Cause this girl is talented! Her songs are catchy and clever, her voice is strong, and she wrote mostly everything! What can I say? I can’t resist talent. That’s the whole reason I became a DC fan in the first place.

OK, time for the second rant. This one may be a little more, er, passionate. Here goes.

Is everyone familiar with the show Monk, about the paranoid detective guy? If so, has anyone seen the episode where he becomes (temporarily) blind? Let me just say one thing about it: GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!

Oh my God, it’s horrible! It did nothing but confirm society’s preconceived notions about blindness, which are:

  1. We are helpless.
  2. Little trivial things we do deserve praise so that we feel good about ourselves.
  3. You need vision to defeat the bad guys in life.

Yes, his vision returns just in time to kick the guy’s butt. Typical. Because of course, only sighted people know how to fight. Blind people can only strike out wildly with their canes and hit something if they’re lucky. Some of my favorite lines in the episode were:
“Am I crying? I can’t tell if i’m crying!”
“There have been blind people who have done amazing things! Like… um… Ray Charles!! And… um… Mr… Magoo!”
Monk: “Hmmm, I think a coat is missing. There are supposed to be 6 and there are only 5!”
Everyone else: “You’re amazing!!!!”
Monk is in a dump and something scurries past. “Wow I’m glad I didn’t see that! See? Stuff like that used to bother me, but now I can’t see it so it doesn’t!” (Um, anything wrong with your nose???)

OK, so usually I have a pretty cool sense of humor. Usually I don’t let stuff bother me. But come on, this is just wrong! Do you see negative portrayals of African-American people on television? Native Americans? Chinese? Not nearly as bad as this! Because face it: blind people are a minority too. And yes, I realize the show is supposed to be a comedy, but why drive home society’s opinion of blind people? It would have been OK for Monk to act all helpless and stuff if they put a self-assured, well-adjusted blind person in the mix, but NOOOO! That would totally ruin the comic effect. Well, I’m sure laughing. Ha. Ha.

But guess what? I’m actually doing something about it this time instead of wallowing in self-pity! Me and a few other people from SISTA are going to write a letter to the producers of the show. I don’t know how much good it’ll do, but I feel completely justified in ranting about this if I have a plan of action as well.

So yeah. I started writing this entry at about 7:30, and it’s now almost 10:00. I had a visit from Jess in the middle of it, then made myself supper, then remembered I had an entry to finish. I’ll try to write tomorrow with less rantiness. Maybe. I love you all! Parting thought: ENCORE FOR THE FANS!!!! (A song title off Beyoncé’s upcoming album, mwahahahha)
