Quite a long entry

Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at 8:56 pm (General ramblings)

And… it… is… an… UPDATE!!! Are y’all jumping for joy?

Anyway, I suppose I should tell you guys that I got the top scholarship at the NFB convention for $1000. I was very surprised and pleased and felt all warm and fuzzy inside! Now I’m gonna apply for a national convention scholarship again. It’s said to be a life-changing experience to go to one of those. This year, they’re doing the “March for Independence” in the middle of Atlanta. Just picture it: a thousand people with canes walking down the streets together! I’m going to be in it, mwahaha.

So I’m sitting in the middle of computer class. I’m supposed to be working on Excel, but I’m obviously not. I’m just so bored with it! I mean honestly, when am I ever going to use spreadsheets on a regular basis? Gah!

Hmmm, what other interesting pieces of news shall I divulge? I dunno. I can never think of exciting developments when the time comes to write them down.

Speaking of my forgetfulness, I shall now make a “Things To Do” list in this diary, and y’all can nag me until I cross them off! (Mom, you’re not included in this because you nag me enough anyway.)

KD’s LIST OF STUFF TO DO

  1. CALL THE SEEING EYE AND APPLY FOR A GUIDE DOG! MUST GET THIS DONE BEFORE THE END OF THE MONTH!!!!
  2. Finish beta-reading chapters for my poor authors. One of them has been waiting very patiently.
  3. Write those letters Mom keeps nagging me about.
  4. Contact my college and ask them about housing issues.
  5. Talk to Fatos about a possible finishing date at SISTA.
  6. Find my lost mind.
  7. Email Amber for some sisterly heart-to-heart.
  8. Finish organizing my CD collection.
  9. Vacuum my apartment.
  10. Call Humanware and complain about how long they’re keeping my BrailleNote.

There. That’s better.

Oh, and I don’t think I told you I had to send my BrailleNote in AGAIN. It frustrates me lots. Grrrrrr!

Anyway, I should probably stop rambling and throw together something that makes it appear that I have been working tirelessly on spreadsheets. I’m so evil… See y’all later! Parting thought: G, YOUR BIRTHDAY PRESENT IS COMING LATE ‘CAUSE I’M A SLACKER!!!

Greetings from the Marriott

Friday, October 13, 2006 at 11:03 pm (Happenings in KD's life)

This is the first time in ages that I’ve written 2 days in a row!! Gold star for KD?

Well, I’m in my room at the Marriott Hotel for the NFB convention, and contrary to what the woman at the front desk said, I can get wireless internet from here.

I’m having quite a good time so far. This morning I had my biggest adventure yet as vice-president of the Nebraska Association of Blind Students by helping with a fund-raiser. I distributed snacks and collected money on a moving bus! Now I kind of know how flight attendants feel. That’ll help you improve your balance, all right.

The rest of the day was mostly workshops and scholarship meetings. Then there was an auction which might still be going on. I was tired, though, so I went up to my room. Something, by the way, I would not have dreamed of doing alone before I came here.

Well, Becky’s trying to sleep and my typing might be keeping her awake. I shall try to write tomorrow. Parting thought: WE HAVE ALL MANNER OF LIQUID AND SOLID REFRESHMENTS!! (Quote from my adopted brother Ryan)

A longer entry than the last one

Thursday, October 12, 2006 at 10:30 pm (General ramblings)

Greetings from the land of insanity! No, really. My life is crazy right now, that’s why I haven’t updated in a while. I just got done packing for the NFB state convention which starts tomorrow. Well, I’m not done yet because one of the outfits I wanted to wear needed to be laundrified. It’s in the dryer right now. So I figured that whilst I’m waiting for it to be finished, I should (a) Reanalyze the contents of my suitcase to make sure I have everything; (b) Listen to my new Sarina Paris CD; and (c) Update my diary. Ain’t that great?

Anyway, the convention should be really interesting. It will have lots of speakers and social activities and door prizes. It’s also the time when I find out how much my scholarship is worth. My roommates at the hotel are going to be Becky and Karen, which should be fun. I haven’t seen Karen since WAGES ended.

Hmm, what else should I tell y’all? I’m getting much more confident in travel, that’s something. Oh, and my shop project, a musical jewelry box, is nearing the final stages. I made a pizza from scratch yesterday and it turned out very tasty. I’m getting faster at grade III. And Romeo’s dead. Sorry, that’s the name of the song I’m listening to.

Hey, are y’all aware that the end of next month marks the 1-year anniversary of this diary? That’s amazing, don’t you think?

Anyway, I shall say goodbye for now, and perhaps update at the hotel if they have wireless internet. See ya later! Oh, and since my last entry contained no parting thought, here are 2: YOU KILLED MY BROTHER!! I MEAN, COMPUTER!! and AUNT RUTHY! AUNT RUTHY! THERE’S KETCHUP ON THE COMPUTER!!! (Yes, both of these are courtesy of Homestar Runner!!!)

Short entry

Friday, October 6, 2006 at 6:01 pm (General ramblings)

Hi, everyone! I told you I’d update soonish, and this is soonish…ish. I’m at a young people’s get-together for my church again. It’s kind of awkward because some of these people have no idea how to behave around a blind person, not realizing that I am, in fact, a normal teen girl and not some alien freak. I’m trying to break the ice, though, and it’s getting better.

I’m quite glad they have wireless internet here. Especially when the others were playing volleyball and I was “watching.” Ah well.

Well, I can’t think of anything else to say; I simply wanted to update y’all on the goings-on in KDville. I might write more when I get home so no one here thinks I’m rude for typing on my Mpower when I should be socializing.

First entry in a looooong time!

Monday, October 2, 2006 at 10:44 am (Happenings in KD's life)

Hi my people! Guess what? I’m sick! Not horribly sick, but sick enough that I’m staying home today. I feel so… blah. But Kaitlin mentioned that I hadn’t updated in a looong time, and she was right. She’s always right. Except, you know, for the times when someone else is.

Well, not much has really happened since my last entry. I went to a flute concert and got to meet the flautist, I got a prototype blind Barbie (that’s right! I’ll post a pic of it someday…), and I got to spend time with Mary this weekend! She came up to visit, and we went to the mall. ‘Twas fun!

Oh, and I got a new Myspace account! Don’t worry, though; this is still my main diary. I probably won’t do much with the Myspace; it’s just nice to have one. It’s not very screen reader friendly, however.

Hmmmm. This entry seems very random and rambly to me. Probably because it is.

Oh! I won a scholarship with the NFB! That’s something exciting I forgot earlier! I dunno how much I got yet, but i’ll find out in a couple weeks at this banquet thingy.

Anyway, I’d better eat some soup or something. I promise to update soon…ish. Parting thought: I LIKE CORNBREAD! (I made some in class the other day. It’s good)
