2 advertisements and some not-so-life-altering news

Wednesday, November 29, 2006 at 9:51 pm (General ramblings)

  • I’m listening to: B*Witched
  • Current mood: Moderately content
  • Important dates: Sunday the 26th of November was the 1-year anniversary of this diary! I meant to update but was entirely too lazy.

Hi, people! You know, I really love the new version of Internet Explorer because it lets you load several pages at once. So after I was done browsing Amazon, I just tabbed over to my diary page and started writing this lovely entry without having to wait all of 3 seconds for the page to load the normal way! Ain’t that great?

OK, so I started this entry with an advertisement. That’s kind of odd. Oh well.

I expect you’re tired of hearing this, but nothing of vital importance has happened since I last wrote. Oh, wait, I was wrong! (I also expect you’re tired of me contradicting myself.)

Anyway, first of all on the important list, I got the newest version of JAWS!!! Unfortunately, I don’t have the human voices feature yet because it’s separate software that you can’t download from the web, and that also apparently takes forever to be received in the mail. Oh well, the other new features are great as well.

And here I go advertising again…

Anyway, coming in at a close second place on my important list: BeyoncĂ© has a new single out!! Not only that, but she happened to pick my absolute favorite song on the entire album! It’s called “Irreplaceable” and it rocks my socks out of the box of hard knocks!!!! (Don’t ask, I have no idea.)

So, as you can see, I don’t really have much life-changing news to report, but I haven’t updated in a while so I thought I’d pop in and add another entry to my ever-growing amount. And on that note, I think I’ll go to bed now. Parting thought; I COULD HAVE ANOTHER YOU IN A MINUTE! AS A MATTER OF FACT, HE’LL BE HERE ANY MINUTE!!! (If you can’t guess what song those lyrics are from, get right off that computer chair and give me 20!!!)

The wonders of chocolate

Monday, November 20, 2006 at 8:08 am (Happenings in KD's life)

  • I’m listening to: Jack Johnson
  • Current mood: Happy
  • Important dates: Thursday, apart from being Thanksgiving, is Mary’s birthday!

Hi people! It hasn’t even been a week since I last updated! Isn’t that great? Well, I thought it was…

I’m feeling a huge sense of accomplishment today, which is odd since I really didn’t do that much. I finally washed my crapload of dishes and did my crapload of laundry and cleaned my kitchen floor, but those are just boring chores. I guess I did navigate my way through the sky walks without getting horribly lost on travel today. I did, however, have an encounter with a creepy guy last Friday.

I was walking to the bank (which, incidentally, is a very easy route so I knew exactly where I was going), and suddenly this guy popped out of nowhere and said, “Where you going?” I was like, “I’m fine, thank you.” And he said, “No, let me help you,” and grabbed me!! Did I mention I hate being touched by random strangers? I flipped out, pulled away, and yelled at him. I can’t remember what exactly I said, but it was probably unpleasant. Then I walked away and he started following me! He probably thought I didn’t notice! HA! UM, BLIND, NOT STUPID!!! So I turned around and gave him the “Look of Death” and he finally walked off.

I had to tell you that story because it was the most exciting thing that happened all week.

Oh, and my adopted Auntie Sarah went to a chocolate store on travel today and brought me back a peanut butter chocolate turtle! I shall now love her forever. Of course, the turtle was so rich I could only bite his head off, but I put him in a plastic bag to eat tomorrow. Maybe that’s why I’m in such a good mood. Chocolate does the body good, I’m telling you.

Anyway, I just got done watching a video that made me all warm and fuzzy inside. Click here to watch it.

Well, I’d better go steal some organic jam from Becky, she promised me some. Parting thought: I WANT THE NEW VERSION OF JAWS, IT SOUNDS AWESOME!!!!! (That’s the screen reader I use)

Another rant

Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at 12:42 pm (General ramblings)

  • I’m listening to: This one really really hard rock song Brice has playing.
  • Current mood: Craving chocolate
  • Important dates: Can’t think of any

Hello, people. I’m at SISTA on lunch break and everything around here is crazy, as usual. We’re preparing for the Thanksgiving buffet tomorrow, so I’ve been cooking all day. I got to inject butter into a turkey with Mike the shop teacher, and he had waaayyy too much fun making slasher movie sound effects to accompany it. It was amusing but also disturbing.

Well, once again, nothing that exciting has happened. I’m still ultra-anxious to go and get a guide dog, despite the disapproval of some people here. See, there’s sometimes lots of hostility between dog users and cane users, mainly because each thinks their way is better. There are extremists either way: some dog users officially give up the cane and don’t believe cane skills are necessary; some cane users think a dog is an inefficient means of travel and advocates too much dependence on someone other than oneself. I, for one, will probably prefer the dog, but I am by no means giving up the cane. I’m going to carry one around with me even when I get a dog.

So there’s KD’s rant of the day.

OK, I’d better submit this entry and gather my stuff because I must cook some more. I’ll try to write later. Parting thought: I WANT A CANDY BAR!!

Musings from the middle of Crazyland

Saturday, November 11, 2006 at 5:50 pm (General ramblings)

  • I’m listening to: Everyone going crazy over football. Lucky me.
  • Current mood: Cynical
  • Important dates: Today is Nana’s birthday!

Hello all! I’m at a workshop in Omaha with the Commission for the Blind (which, incidentally, is not the same as the Federation OF the Blind because of the oh-so-subtle but very important use of a certain preposition), and I’m waiting to go to this fancy banquet thingy. Everyone around me is totally going psychotic over the football game, which is playing in the hotel lobby. I am so glad I don’t care about whether or not Nebraska wins. I’m the type of person who, if I did care, would be depressed all night if they lost.

So this guy I hadn’t seen in a long time came up to me a few minutes ago and hugged me. Then he proceeded to tell me that I’ve “filled out nicely.” Is that supposed to be a compliment or a perverted remark? And is anyone else reminded of that one issue of Teen Girl Squad…?

Anyway, not much else interesting has happened so far at this thingy. It’s basically been a bunch of sessions where you sit and be bored. Or in my case, download and organize your book collection. Well, some of the sessions were kind of interesting, but I HATE sitting all day! It’s annoying.

I think we basically won the game. Joy. Now everyone will hopefully shut up.

OK, I should really stop typing now because my arm is killing me. (Try typing on your Mpower while it’s dangling off your shoulder.) I’ll see y’all later. Parting thought: I’M NOT SUFFERING FROM INSANITY, I’M ENJOYING IT!!

Another forbidden entry

Tuesday, November 7, 2006 at 8:28 am (General ramblings)

  • I’m listening to: Nothing, I’m in school
  • Current mood: Somewhat refreshed and a little cold
  • Important dates: Today is Becky’s birthday!

Well hello, dear readers! I am in a much better mood than yesterday, though I’m still slightly miffed with Humanware. I’m also annoyed that technology for the blind is so dern expensive! I’d better get a well-paying job after college, that’s all I gots to say.

I’m writing this in computer class, once again procrastinating reading my Excel textbook. I don’t think Sahar notices. But even if she did, I honestly don’t think she’d care that much. She’s a really cool person. By the way, check out her website. There. Now that I advertised for her she can’t complain. Mwahahaha.

Well, I still need to do other stuff while I’m online, so I’ll see y’all later! Parting thought: THIS LION’S INNARDS ARE LOOKING… SOOOO GOOOD!!!! (Another quote from Homestar Runner. Oh how I love that site…)

Feeling rather bratty

Monday, November 6, 2006 at 9:42 pm (General ramblings)

  • I’m listening to: The Goo Goo Dolls
  • Current mood: 3 guesses…
  • Important dates: Tuesday, Dec. 5, Dreamgirls soundtrack available in stores

This is my first email entry in quite a while, huh? Thought i’d shake things up a bit.

So I just realized today that my BrailleNote, which I just got back, has no multi-lingual software on it anymore! This is a very bad thing, considering I’ll need that software in about 2 months when I start college and will be studying Spanish and French. The software was on there when I sent it in, but has vanished without a trace! I left an annoyed message with Humanware, so hopefully they’ll get back to me.

This is one of the things today that contributes to my very bratty mood. (Note: “Bratty” is a bit of an understatement. The correct word to describe my mood is something I’d better not write in this entry.) Some of the stuff that’s been happening I really can’t say anything about because it involves another person, and out of respect for this person I will not post their confidences to me in an online diary. Suffice it to say i’m worried about this person. A lot.

On the bright side, i’m now the girlfriend of a sex god…

OK, so that was just a quote from a book I read once. Everyone keep your hair on, I don’t actually have a boyfriend. Just thought I’d throw in some randomness.

Well, I’m quite tired and generally mad at the world, but I thought I’d update y’all on the highly frustrating story of KD’s life. Maybe I just need to sleep it off. Parting thought: NEVER ARGUE WITH IDIOTS–THEY’LL MAKE YOU STOOP TO THEIR LEVEL, THEN BEAT YOU FROM EXPERIENCE. (Quote from some guy on the BrailleNote mailing list I’m a part of)

Second attempt at an entry!

Thursday, November 2, 2006 at 9:07 pm (General ramblings)

Well, that’s just great. I was sitting here typing an entry, and all of a sudden my internet window closed with an error message! So guess what? No more entry! ‘Twas very sad. But for the sake of my dear reader(s), I shall make a new one.

OK, so I’ve crossed off the following on my “Things To Do” list: Vacuum my apartment; beta for my authors; call Humanware about the BrailleNote (I got it back yesterday! Happy dance!!!); and contact The Seeing Eye. I just got done visiting their website, and have officially decided that I want a guide dog NOW!!! Seriously, I want to pack my bags and fly right over there to get started. Hey, I’ve been waiting to go since the age of 7!!

Anyway, once again I don’t have much to report in the area of exciting developments, except that I tried a muffin recipe in home management for the second time and they turned out great! The first time, I was in a huge hurry because I’d gotten to class late and needed to catch the bus for travel, so I haphazardly threw the ingredients together with no regard for accurate measuring. Those were the scariest muffins I’ve ever had the misfortune to meet–er, eat…

I have now decided to stick with my list theme and write a “Things I Want” list in my diary. Here it is:

  1. A guide dog. (If you didn’t see that coming…)
  2. Kelly’s album to come out. (If you also didn’t see that coming…)
  3. A cell phone accessible to the blind.
  4. To see the movie Dreamgirls, which stars the lovely Ms. Beyoncé.
  5. BrailleNote GPS.
  6. A more accurate scanning program.
  7. One of those little robot vacuums.
  8. A three-in-one money reader, color identifier, and voice recorder, which I will get as soon as it comes in stock. If it ever does, grrrr…
  9. A large, steaming mug of hot chocolate. (I could actually go and make some…)
  10. Anything on this page.

So there ya go, another list. And now I’m going to get ready for bed because I’m incredibly tired. See y’all later. Parting thought: WINGARDIUM LEVIOSA!!!! (Just my way of saying that the release of Harry Potter 7 is also something I want)
